We cannot believe it - we were shortlisted for two awards at the prestigious annual Soil Association 'Best Of Organic Market' or 'BOOM' Awards. Firstly, our founder, Ethan was shortlisted for 'Organic Rising Star' sponsored by Balance Magazine and WHEY AHEAD® was shortlisted for 'Best New Organic Startup Business' sponsored by Ocado.
We found out about the shortlisting in May/June time and were so humbled to have even reached that stage. There were so many fantastic businesses both nominated and through to the final stages. For Best Organic Startup, we were up against two incredible brands and huge respect to both of them: Tiny Leaf and Myrtle and Maude.
The Awards ceremony was at Borough Market in London on 5th July. We were greeted by the lovely and bubbly, Clare McDermott who was really welcoming. It was emotional to be at a venue where just one month previously, was subject to a tragic and horrifying attack during the London Bridge terrorist incident. At the beginning of the evening, we paid our respects and gave money towards a fund to help the market traders.
The evening itself was a celebration of organic. We believe it's the future, the (WHEY AHEAD®!) and it was great to see so many different brands and variety of organic endeavours showcased. From organic ales and cider, gin and wines to breads, asparagus dips, cheese, vegan delights and even organic flower displays! It made us feel proud to be part of a community which is growing and passionate about making a difference to our natural environment and people's health.
When we eventually took our seats after sampling some organic delights, the ceremony started. There were guest presenters for each award from some of the judging panels including this year's Soil Association BOOMbassador, Rosie Birkett, who is a chef and food writer. We had some fun actually getting seated as there wasn't much room on the end of the row where Ethan was seated so he literally had to squeeze in! This made the people behind us laugh and we soon made friends with them as they have a pun for their brand name too ; the Well Hung Meat Company! It was awesome hanging out with them - they were so friendly and encouraging.
When it came to our category which was for 'best organic outlets', we sat nervously waiting for the winners to be announced. We could not believe it when we heard WHEY AHEAD® for best organic startup! We shared the stage with amazing companies. The other category winners which are summarised below:
- Cafe St Honore for Best Organic Eating Out (Organic Served Here) sponsored by Arla
- Better Food Company for Best Organic Independent Retailer sponsored by Rachel's Organic

Very kindly, and this just goes to show how encouraging and inclusive the organic world is, Better Food Company pointed to our award and said that ours was the most important as we are the innovators/next generation. I was so touched by that comment. It really meant a great deal to think that someone thought that about our mission.
Needless to say, the whole experience has increased our focus and inspired us. We always want to provide the best organic products to our customers and deliver the best experience to them. We are now even more committed than ever after this accolade to do our best and continue to shake supplements up with a pure, clean organic alternative. It really is the WHEY AHEAD®. Thanks for reading and for all your support. #organicfitfam #GoOrganic
