Paralympics - 'Perfect' Humans + the Power of Sport

We're still missing the Paralympics here at WHEY AHEAD® HQ :( It was an inspiring games on so many levels. Not just because we were super excited to see our brand ambassador, Richard Whitehead MBE in action (he won gold in the 200m and silver in the 100m!), but because of the important messages and tone of the games.

It started off with an incredible opening ceremony which talked about the power of diversity & inclusion. It was a spectacle of the human spirit to continue to succeed in the face of adversity. They showed a giant human heart pumping. We all have this in common. One of the torch bearers fell, but got up again to the cheer of the crowd. A message in itself. We were touched by some of the incredible imagery.

One part we loved, was the rethinking of Da Vinci's Vetruvian or 'perfect' Man. What is perfection? Don't get us wrong, Da Vinci's work is amazing but we believe there is no such thing as perfection and the more we strive for it, the more unhappy we become. It's particularly relevant in the context of body image. Even the fittest and strongest people have imperfections. It's about embracing them as part of life and making the most of it. This was the main image used during the ceremony which redefines a perfect body:

The 4 Paralympic values were certainly lived and breathed in Rio. They are:

1) Determination : Athletes show enormous determination when they train and compete. There will be good days and bad days, but they find the drive and motivation to keep going, they keep pushing their bodies and minds beyond limits at training and with the right nutrition. For example, our brand ambassador Richard, researched and chose our organic whey protein to supplement his nutrition because he scrutinised every part of his preparation to make sure it was the best. The willpower, focus and determination that Paralympians possess makes them #superhuman!

2) Courage : Courage is the ability to have the self-belief and confidence to overcome difficulty, sometimes in the face of adversity. It's the 'yes i can' mentality when obstacles are put in your way. We've attached the most amazing video below. Tears were brought to our eyes but let us know what you think..!

3) Equality : Equality in sport is something we think is very important over at WHEY AHEAD® HQ. Showing respect and humility towards all those around you is what sport and life is all about. The Paralympic Games encourages change and breaks down social barriers of discrimination.

4) Inspiration : The type of role model these athletes are, transcends sport. They are an example of what can be achieved if you put your mind to it. They are the biggest inspiration. Here's our very own brand ambassador Richard in action. #fitspiration

Finally, if you're not already feeling inspired, try watching this amazing video by Channel 4 Paralympics. It's called "YES I CAN":

It was Team GB's best ever performance at the Paralympic Games 2016. We are so proud of them! Let us know what you thought - we'd love to hear from you! Thanks for being part of our organic fit family:)
