Healthy and Happy, Not Cheap and Cheerful! A fit body (and mind) isn't just for Christmas, it's for LIFE! Dani Needham & Ethan have tried to demonstrate that fitness is a life-long, sustainable goal in this 8-week challenge. Now they're in the final two weeks, Dani updates on her experience during week six.
We’ve really broken the back of our 8 Week Challenge now, and I’m starting to see and feel great progress! I couldn’t agree more with Ethan about the importance of nutrition, as it is definitely more about quality than quantity. As an aspiring bodybuilder, I have always been very strict on my calories and macro-nutrient intake in the past. Since reframing my goals on happiness and health at the start of this transformation journey, I haven’t counted a single calorie! Ok, sure - being in the health and fitness industry for so long does mean I have learnt enough about food and portion sizes to know exactly what 100g of chicken looks like by just eye-balling it - so I’m just finding it really refreshing to have a different perspective towards my nutrition as well as my training.
The focus on quality over quantity has seen me going from checking every label for the nutritional information to checking the source of the produce and looking for that organic certification! Eating like a typical bodybuilder, ie 7 meals a day with my macros carefully counted, meant that cheap and cheerful meats were the norm. I used to bulk-buy chicken breasts from a typical online meat supplier that’s marketed to gym lovers. Cheap, cheerful and my macros were sorted. Having learnt a bit about our food industry and the effect poor quality foods (especially meat) have on our bodies, I quickly realised that quality nutrition really is the WHEY AHEAD®! I’m now so pleased to be eating fully organic in my lifestyle- and it’s not as difficult, nor expensive, as you’d think. Making sure that everything I eat is as natural and organic as possible really does make an astonishing difference to my health and happiness; I really don’t know how I functioned for so long without it. Stepping away from both sets of scales (the ones in the kitchen AND the ones in the bathroom) has given me so much freedom to be able to truly enjoy this journey without obsessing over the end result. Being in the gym with my members and clients is now all about enjoying myself, and when I’m in the kitchen it’s all about great quality products and great tasting dishes! Becoming healthy and happy has never been easier, and it’s never been so much fun :)
