Last week we heard from Ethan and today our brand ambassador, Dani Needham tells us about her first couple of weeks on the What, Whey & Why Challenge!
Week 1 & 2
Starting point vital stats
OK, I’ll admit - I was off to a bit of a slow start with this 8 Week Challenge. After being unwell I was still not back at work, let alone in the gym by the time our start date rolled round. But as the saying goes, there’s never a right time to do these things; you have to make the time right. And the more I focused on my Why, the easier things started to fall into place. I’m convinced that finding my Why has been the turning point in my recovery from burn-out and has lead me back to the gym smiling. So by making sure today and each day is in line with my Why – doing things that promote my health and happiness – I have made this the right time to get back in the gym and get my fitness back on track.
I am not disheartened or stressed that we’re into week 2 already and I’ve only just stepped back into the gym, rather acknowledging how I feel and giving myself permission for where I’m at today. I was originally a bit shy about wanting to share my ‘vital stats’ because I’d felt like I’d let myself go a bit. But focusing on health and happiness has given me the confidence to view these numbers in a different light – yes, they are progress markers but they are not indicators of worth! I have decided to share them as they are a great way to show others what can be achieved with a little hard work, a lot of determination and a great mindset.
Ethan and I are both starting gently and taking it easy getting back into the gym. This week I have gone for a couple of runs with my dog, done one light full body weight training session and I’ll be back with my boxing coach at the weekend. This is plenty to begin with and I aim to build on this week by week and slowly return to previous levels of fitness. My diet is back to being spot-on (no more feel-sorry-for-myself-soup-in-a-can haha!) and this will definitely provide the solid foundation I need from which to grow stronger. The first thing I did to improve my nutrition was give up coffee as I picked up a bad habit of drinking more coffee the more tired I felt. Too much caffeine is notoriously bad for the adrenal glands, so in order to promote rest and better energy I kicked out coffee and went Matcha Green Tea Total. Read all about that here!
As for building the business, I’ve learned to take it easy here too. I’m still working long days, but I’m incorporating a lot more ‘rest’ into my day now. For me that means getting away from my desk and the screen frequently during the day, going for walks at lunch and catching up and checking in regularly with my wonderful support networks: Beauty at Brunch and Team Whey Ahead.
