How To Level Up Your Organic Nutrition

Written by WHEY AHEAD® brand ambassador, Dani Needham

As a friend of WHEY AHEAD® and a reader of our blog pages, you already know the importance of making sure you fuel your body with the right stuff. You’ve got your Organic Whey Protein, but what about the rest of your diet?

The single best thing you can do to improve your health is to improve the quality of your nutrition. It’s not always about eating salads or drinking smoothies in an effort to become healthier! Did you know you can dramatically improve the nutritional value of the ‘normal’, everyday foods you eat just by choosing organic? It’s really is a no-brainer, but if you need more convincing, check out these 10 Reasons To Go Organic! So it’s not always necessary to change the foods we eat, rather the sources and quality of those foods.

The best place to start is, of course, with Whey Ahead Organic Protein! Since millions of people around the world don’t get enough protein[1], then adding the highest quality protein supplement to your diet is a perfect start to improving your health. If you’re highly active and already take a protein supplement, then upgrading to Whey Ahead Organic Protein is great way to level-up your nutrition.

As soon as you start to feel the benefits of introducing organic protein to your diet, it’s only natural that you’ll want to know how to get even more benefits! So the first step is to start getting some other organic nutrition in your diet with some of the foods you eat. It’s not necessary at this stage to completely overhaul the contents of your fridge, just start with the basics: the clean fifteen and the dirty dozen. Find out what works for you, your lifestyle and your budget.

By now, you’re paying more attention to the quality of certain foods and you know why (all those pesticides, hormones and other nasties!). Good for you. No really, it is. Your body will thank you for it. The ‘clean fifteen/dirty dozen’ principles seamlessly and effortlessly introduce a more conscious shopping that grows into a real interest and passion for the organic lifestyle. And, better yet, it happens organically ;)

For many, right here is the perfect balance between organic and non-organic foods in their diet. They know how great organic foods are for their body, and they’re consciously avoiding the worst stuff. This a very realistic and worthwhile goal for anyone starting out on their organic nutrition journey.

If you’re ready to ‘level-up’ your organic nutrition further, then it starts to get exciting! And yes, you really can get excited about organic nutrition, I certainly do.

The next best food group to look at upgrading is meat. If you’re an avid meat eater like me, you’ll have already noticed the difference between a cheap, supermarket steak and a prime cut from organic, grass-fed cows. And I’m not just talking about the taste. Unsurprisingly, what an animal eats affects the nutritional value of the meat it produces, but what you may not know is the extent of this difference in nutritional value. It’s quite alarming. A healthy, organic, grass-fed-as-nature-intended cow will produce meat that is high in the healthy omega-3 fats, which is great news for our bodies since we should be eating way more of them to maintain a good balance between omega-3 and omega-6 fats. The balance between these fats gets skewed if we eat too much processed foods and cheap, poorly fed meats that are high in omega-6s. Although omega-6 fats are essential for a healthy body, they are easily oxidised and can cause cancers and other diseases if not kept in balance with high levels of omega-3s. Unfortunately, many supermarkets will favour cheap mass production of animal products over prioritising health, so organic, grass-fed meats can be hard to come by. Your best bet is going direct to a local farm or finding one that delivers. Many do! I have my organic, grass-fed meats arrive on my doorstep from a farm in Somerset. It’s so simple I don’t know why I haven’t found this sooner!

Once you’ve gone from a being a Clean Fifteen-er, to a clean fifteen plus organic, grass-fed meat eater, the rest is easy. Addictive even! So much of what you eat will be organic that you’ll start to think that the rest may as well be up to standard, too. You’ll search out organic tea and coffee, ketchup and condiments will get upgraded, and even your Saturday night bottle of wine will be made from organic grapes! You’re hooked, and a fully-fledged member of the organic club now. Welcome! The more people that buy organic, ethically sourced, high standard foods will actually raise demand for such produce. This increased demand will, and has, encouraged supermarkets and food production companies to upgrade our food quality since more and more of us are refusing to settle for less.

There is of course, one step further. You can make like Whey Ahead Founder Ethan’s wife and buy organic nail varnish and shampoo, too! But the rest of us mere mortals can start with our diets and notice that we’ll feel healthier and so much better nourished. Organic nutrition is the WHEY AHEAD®.
