For some, it might not be practical or cost-effective to go 100% organic. So, if you want to follow an organic lifestyle for health or ethical reasons, you might want to prioritise certain foods & drinks over others.
We thought it might be useful to outline which foods contain the most pesticides (the 'dirty dozen') and which contain the fewest ('the clean fifteen').
Here's the list to help you make the right choices for you:
- Sweet Bell Peppers
- Sugar Snap Peas
- Cherry Tomatoes
- Frozen Peas
- Canteloupe Melon
- Sweet Potatoes
We like to think about making an organic choice as a balance of two things:
1) food & drink consumed regularly vs. 2) those that contain the most nutrients
For example, if you eat a lot of apples, you might want to choose organic considering apples have one of the highest exposures to pesticides. Alternatively, if you value the nutritional benefits of milk, you might want to go organic for that due to organic milk having a higher biological value and omega 3 & 6 content.
Of course, you can choose a combination of both of the above. Most gym-goers and athletes use whey protein regularly to supplement their diets and organic whey has a higher nutrient value than normal whey protein so they might want to go organic.
Ultimately the choice will come down to personal preference and priority. Good luck on making the right decision to suit your lifestyle!
All the best in health, fitness & happiness:)
